Dear Applicant:

Thank you for asking about graduate study in Anthropology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Our final decisions on admission are made during January and February for the following fall semester. We do not accept new students for the spring term. Please have the on-line application completed by December 1 to make the next fall admission deadline.

A complete on-line application consists of the following:

1. The "Application For Admission To The Graduate College."
           www.grad.uiuc.edu/admissions/apply/

2. The statement of your interests and career plans. (on-line)

3. Official transcripts from all colleges you have or are attending.

4. Letters of recommendation from three people who know you well and can evaluate your potential for advanced study. (on-line)

5. The Graduate Record Examination or the Test of English as a Foreign Language scores are required. If English is not your native language, you must take the TOEFL unless you attended an English-speaking university for two or more years. If you are exempt from the TOEFL, you must take the GRE. For details on the TOEFL, see the instructions included in the application.

6. If you are not a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, you must provide the University Admissions Officer with original bank statements of the financial resources which enable you to live in the U.S. for the number of years needed to earn an advanced degree.

We realize that this involves considerable effort on your part, but the more information we have about you, the better chance we have of selecting those students who will benefit most from our program. Please realize that most students who apply to us are well qualified, and that each year we must turn away several for each student accepted. Do take special care in preparing your statement of interests and career plans, and in selecting the persons whom you will ask to write letters of evaluation.

Once again, thank you for your interest in the University of Illinois. We hope that you will consider applying to our program.

Very sincerely,

Steven Leigh
