ACADEMIC PROFESSIONAL POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

 

      The Public Service Archaeology and Architecture Program of the Department of Anthropology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks qualified candidates for positions as a Public Service Assistant Specialist. This is a full-time Academic Professional position with benefits. The initial term of the appointment will be soon as possible after closing  to August 15, 2008. Continuation of this position is contingent on availability of funds. Public Service Assistant Specialists provide technical expertise in the collection and processing of cultural resource data under the direction of Public Service Archaeology Specialists.

 

Qualifications:

 

      Individuals hired under this classification must hold a B.A. or B.S. degree, in Anthropology or a related field, with experience in archaeology or cultural resource management.  Individuals must have Field School training and 3 months additional experience or over one year of field and laboratory experience in cultural resource management.

 

Position Description:

 

      The Public Service Assistant Specialist of the Public Service Archaeology and Architecture Program performs duties that require advanced education and practical training in anthropological cultural resource management and must exercise good judgment and discretion in decision making.  Specific duties include archival research, archaeological field research, architectural field research laboratory research, materials analysis, preparation of written materials, and administrative assistance.  This particular position requires the ability to work with supervision in field and laboratory settings.  The position requires the application of past cultural resource knowledge to make informed decisions.  The position requires up to 50 percent travel outside of Illinois and additional travel within Illinois. The Home office will typically be in Urbana but placement may also occur in Gurnee, Illinois. The Public Service Assistant Specialist of the Public Service Archaeology and Architecture Program reports directly to a Public Service Archaeologist Specialist.  The Public Service Assistant Specialist has no supervisory function.

 

Starting Salary:

 

      The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has established Academic Professional appointments have a starting salary of $ 27,325.00 for 12 months.
