About Us
Anthropologists examine the human condition across time and space. The Department of Anthropology at the
University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign has long been a leader in our discipline through active programs in
archeology,
biological anthropology,
and sociocultural and linguistic anthropology.
We offer an undergraduate major as well as
doctoral degree programs. In our graduate programs
some 80 graduate students are engaged in doctoral
research that will shape the future of our discipline. Our 31
full-time faculty
and numerous affiliated faculty
continue longstanding departmental strengths in regional studies and in the foundations of anthropological theory,
while playing a leading role in a number of fields of current theoretical interest in anthropology. In recent years
we have added a number of excellent young anthropologists to our faculty making this a particularly vibrant and
exciting time in our history.
